The COVID-19 crisis may have caused several job losses. But these industries are living proof that the shift in the economy is not the end of the road. They are still hiring, and some have even a higher need for new employees because of the increasing market demand for their products and services.
Online Retail
Online shopping is increasing more than ever. The marketplaces need new people to manage the rising demand. In their latest hiring spree, Amazon is planning to add 33,000 people for corporate and tech roles and, Flipkart to create more than 70,000 direct jobs to address the spike in online sales during big shopping days. Many such online retailers are looking at expanding their workforce. Walmart to hire 50,000 more workers in the US and 2800 workers in India.
Shipping and Delivery Companies
Shipping and delivery services have increased with contactless shopping and ordering. Amazon is hiring nearly 100,000 workers in warehousing, shipping, and delivery operations in the US. UPS (plans to hire more than 100,000-holiday workers) and local courier services are also hiring in most countries.
Online Learning Platforms
With school and college closures impacting 285 million young learners in India, teachers have taken an online route to teaching their students. Today, online learning platforms need more teachers, educators, content developers, product managers, tech professionals, and sales experts to fulfill the rising demand. EdTech companies like UpGrad, Simplilearn, Dronstudy, Vedantu, Udemy, and CollegeDekho, are looking at creating at least 3,000 new jobs, mainly in tech, product, and sales.
Grocery Stores and Delivery Services
Grocery stores have seen the most significant spike in decades during the pandemic. And to fulfill increased customer demand, online grocery firms like the Big Basket are reportedly hiring 10,000 permanent staff to clear the backlog and Grofers is hiring 2,000 people from different sectors that have been deeply impacted by the present crisis.
Tech Support
Technology is our best friend now more than ever. With increased remote work, recruitment, training, etc. people need more support and troubleshooting, which needs 24/7 tech support. Tech companies building software applications or those providing only services are all hiring.
Teleworking Software
Remote communication has increased by 44% compared to the last 5 years. Companies like Slack, Zoom, Microsoft, etc. are all in need of staff to build and manage applications and support customers. Job postings by video chat platform Zoom nearly doubled from Jan. 1 to March 9 – from 128 openings to 252. While at Slack, a company that makes corporate chat software, job postings jumped 50% over the same period – from 163 to 245.
Healthcare
Health and wellness are top priority now. Healthcare companies need more people than ever. From pharmaceutical R&D to manufacturing, support, wellness programs, and advisory, companies in this space are all hiring. Take, for example, CVS Health, a $70 billion healthcare conglomerate, plans to hire 50,000 workers, gives bonuses to employees amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Food Delivery
With dining out almost zero or minimal, ordering in has gone up a million times than before. Food delivery services like DoorDash, UberEats, Zomato, Swiggy, etc. are looking for delivery personnel, customer support, etc. Domino’s is actively hiring 20,000 new employees at its U.S. corporate and franchise stores.
